Annie Besant

One of the great public intellectuals, Annie Besant (1847-1933) was an activist, a social reformer, a journalist and a Theosophist. She was widely admired for her courage and sensitivity, as well as her great integrity and compassion. Her contribution to social justice was praised by George Bernard Shaw, Jawaharlal Nehru, M.K. Gandhi and many others.
