Humans live their lives in stories. We communicate through telling stories.
If the stories ground deeper than our everyday lives, everyday language is inefficient to properly communicate their meaning. These stories we call myths. They are ‘ineffable’. They cannot be expressed with words. Images reach deeper into our unconscious and subconscious mind and resonate and communicate meaning. Symbols are the language of myths. A language that needs to be and can be learned.
